Leading factual South Australian production company, Breakout Productions, continues to break new ground in the local and international television space, recently hiring UK based, Gemma Greene, as its Head of International Development and Co-Productions.

CEO, Colin Thrupp said, “in this newly created role, Gemma will be responsible for fuelling further growth by expanding Breakout’s development slate and establishing new relationships with international broadcasters and production companies. ”

Established in 2020 and based in Adelaide Studios, Breakout is one of Australia’s most successful producers of factual television programming. The company has delivered five seasons of Aussie Snake Wranglers for National Geographic and Love Nature, several Shark Week specials for Warner Brothers Discovery, and has recently completed Super Shark Highway for Love Nature – a six-part series following two elite teams as they track the ocean’s greatest predator along remote and unexplored shark migration routes.

“While Breakout Productions has successfully carved out a niche in the wildlife space through several international commissions, we want to open more doors and expand into new genres, ” said Colin Thrupp.

“Since its establishment, Breakout Productions has tripled its annual output and become Australia’s leading producer and creator of shark related content.”

“It’s our goal to continue this growth trajectory and solidify ourselves as premium creators of wildlife and adventure programming. Gemma’s glowing reputation and development experience will be instrumental in achieving this goal.”

Gemma has over 15-years’ experience in the production and development of specialist factual television and has directed and produced shows ranging from travel and adventure to blue chip wildlife documentaries.

Most recently, Gemma worked as a Development Executive at the BBC’s world-renowned Natural History Unit, where she helped win both UK and international commissions.

Gemma also held the role of Head of Development at Icon Films where she successfully developed returning series for Love Nature & National Geographic as well as a travel series for Vice, and several specials for Warner Brothers Discovery and National Geographic.

Gemma said, “I’m thrilled to be joining such an ambitious and exciting company. I hope that my passion for developing entertaining and insightful content, combined with my knowledge of the international market, can help win new business and put Breakout firmly on the map as one of Australia’s top factual production companies.”
